The Advocacy Advisory Board (AAB) is a standing PRSA committee of experts in public affairs, issues management and media relations. They convene twice each month to review, discuss and address developments identified and tracked each day by PRSA. On their agenda are pending legislation, regulatory proposals, practice challenges and current issues with a potential impact on the practice and principles of the public relations profession. Issues touch on professional best practices, PRSA Code of Ethics principles and the free flow of accurate and truthful information espoused by the Code and protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The AAB also draws on expertise from other PRSA leaders. Committee members include the chair of the PRSA Government and Public Affairs Professional Interest Section and representatives of PRSA’s Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS). The committee also works regularly with BEPS on matters related to the PRSA Code of Ethics and consults with an advisory group drawn from the Professional Interest Sections on issues related to the Sections’ areas of specialty. The AAB also confers quarterly on issues of mutual interest with other communications professionals’ organizations such as the Word of Mouth Marketing Association.
