In a media environment where seconds can determine being first to report — and subsequently, success or failure — news organizations are always looking for creative ways to stay ahead of the competition. With user-generated content (UGC), the paradigm of how news is gathered, reported and consumed, is shifting.
Storyful, called “the news agency for the social media age,” has developed a process it calls the "human algorithm" — a process by which it verifies news that is transmitted over social media or posted online by people who are not journalists. The organization’s content is used by the BBC, The Associated Press, CBS, ABC, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, and is changing the way millions of people see the world’s unfolding current events. During this session, Mark Little, Storyful’s founder and CEO, will discuss the organization’s success and how UGC is the next evolution of journalism in the digital age.
