What sets a top-level communications counselor apart from the others? What do presidents value most and expect from their top communications officer? What are some simple things you can and should do to manage communications at your college or university? In this fast-paced presentation, learn seven simple strategies that will maximize your effectiveness and propel you to the top in the university communications field.
Michael Warden, APR, is vice president for communications and marketing at Georgia Tech.
Before Georgia Tech, he served as the associate vice chancellor for strategic communications
at the University of Colorado. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as director of public affairs for the Air Force Materiel Command. He transitioned to higher education as a visiting assistant professor at Southern Methodist University, and executive director for public affairs at the University System of Texas.
Lori Doyle is senior vice president, communications, at Drexel University. She spent the first
12 years of her career working in the public relations agency business and was general manager of the Philadelphia office of GolinHarris Communications. She then spent eight years as chief public affairs officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and then 10 years as vice president of communications for the University of Pennsylvania.
Joseph A. Brennan, Ph.D., APR, is associate vice president for university communications
at the University at Buffalo. In addition to administrative work, he teaches public relations and
conducts communication research. His recent publications include a critical examination of
the U.S. News college rankings, and a case study of JetBlue’s crisis communication strategies. He is an Accredited member of PRSA, and is the chair-elect of PRSA’s Counselors to Higher Education Professional Interest Section.
