Peek behind the curtain at the demands of being a travel editor at a major daily newspaper. Hilton will reveal insights about the modern news cycle and what it takes to remain a source for their readers. From populating a weekly print edition, pulling wire content, corralling freelancers and covering the industry in real time, communicators will get an insider’s view of what journalists care about most and how to better engage with them.
Spud Hilton is travel editor at The San Francisco Chronicle. He is a 24-year journalist and a late-blooming traveler who has written about, reported on and been hopelessly lost on six continents. His attempts to defy the expectations of places have earned his work seven SATW Lowell Thomas Awards, and have appeared in more than 60 newspapers in North America. Hilton is the founding editor of the Bad Latitude travel blog and “Bad Latitude TV,” where he produces 60-Second Travel Tip videos that have been featured by Peter Greenberg, Rudy Maxa and This Week in Travel.
