Nominating Process Open in Search for 2015 National Leadership

April 1, 2014

PRSA is looking for tomorrow’s leaders today. The Society is inviting its members to apply for available positions for the 2015 Board of Directors.

Serving as a leader for PRSA is a rich, rewarding experience and is critical to the effective governance of the Society and in creating a collaborative community of opportunity for nearly 22,000 PRSA members. The Board of Directors acts as the public face of the organization and also advocates on behalf of the profession, encouraging others to engage with the organization, assist with committees and provide valuable insight into what is happening within the profession.

“Selecting dedicated, engaged and experienced directors is critical to the success of PRSA and influences the entire industry,” said Gerard F. Corbett, APR, Fellow PRSA, chair of the 2014 Nominating Committee. “I am confident that qualified candidates will find National Board service with PRSA an incredibly rewarding experience and one that validates them as leaders of the public relations profession.”

The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates to fill the three Executive Committee positions as well as the Director positions for five Districts and one At-Large position. The available openings are as follows:

  • Chair-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Director, East Central District
  • Director, Mid-Atlantic District
  • Director, Northeast District
  • Director, Tri-State District
  • Director, Western District
  • Director, At-Large

Detailed information about Board service and eligibility, and the applications, are available on the PRSA website.

Additionally, PRSA leaders will conduct a series of teleconferences to discuss the requirements for serving on the Board of Directors and to answer candidates’ questions.

Candidates can nominate themselves or another PRSA member can nominate them. The application deadline is Tuesday, June 17.

The PRSA Nominating Committee will review applications and supporting documents and interview candidates when it convenes on August 1-3 in Chicago. When reviewing candidates, the Committee will assess qualifications such as leadership skills and professional accomplishments. The Committee will also consider the candidates’ variety of practice sectors, geographical origin and diversity.

To be eligible as a director, the applicant must be Accredited in Public Relations (APR), be a member of the Society in good standing and have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Held a leadership role within the Society, including, but not limited to, serving as a member of a Chapter, District or Section Board of Directors, chairing a National or local committee or task force, or acting as an Assembly delegate

  • Served as a PR professional for 20 or more years, with increasing levels of responsibility

To be eligible as an officer, the candidate must meet the eligibility criteria required of a director and must have served on the Society’s Board. A person currently serving as a director may seek to be elected for an officer position.

PRSA will present its final selections for a vote by the Leadership Assembly in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Oct. 11.
