According to Florida Enterprise, a private, nonprofit research institute, 90 percent of Florida’s 67 counties were impacted by Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne last August and September. The onslaught of these hurricanes over a six-week period caused an estimated $50 billion in damage to private and public property in Florida.

The PR professionals who live and work in these areas were among the millions who faced life without fresh water, power and phone service, among many other necessities. However, regardless of the circumstances, examples abound of people who volunteered with disaster relief and helped return their neighborhoods to some sense of normalcy.
