Each month, Tactics brings you job-hunting tips
Henry Cloud’s new book, “The One-Life Solution,” addresses work-life balance and the disappearing boundary between the office and home. He maintains that personal growth issues affect a person’s competencies and ability to manage time. People can’t face certain conversations, and run away from decisions. But to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life, you have to manage not just your time, but your energy, he says. You might not be aware that some people and activities are getting the best of your energy.
He recommends clarifying goals. “My contention is there are a lot of people running around with time-management software and planners,” he told The Wall Street Journal on Aug. 25. “But they are so fragmented and out of control that they don’t understand that they have issues that make them unable to do what their planners tell them to do.”
