In 1986, Michael Kempner launched his one-person PR agency with an IBM Selectric typewriter in a friend’s office space.
The East Rutherford, N.J.-based MWW Group eventually grew to become one of the country’s top-five largest independent PR agencies. In October 2000, MWW became part of the GolinHarris PR unit of the Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG), which also owns PR agencies including Weber Shandwick and advertising giants such as Deutsch and McCann Erickson.
After 10 years with the global organization, Kempner and a group of 15 senior managers bought the agency back from Interpublic at the beginning of this year.
