This fall, Fortune magazine will release its picks for the “Executive Dream Team,” an all-star lineup of the top men and women in C-suite positions throughout the business world. In preparation, it identified its four most important traits for CEOs:
* Understand global business. Everybody talks a good global game.Only a few are true citizens of the world.
* Change strategies and business models. In the good old days, a strong business model lasted for decades. Not anymore.CEOs in almost every industry will have to innovate at their business’s deepest level.
* Skillfully manage relationships with governments. Governments worldwide are changing their involvement in business — mostly increasing it — and someone needs to manage it all.
* Identify and manage risks before they become disasters. In a notoriously volatile and risky business environment, the CEOs keep their company on a steady and profitable course.
