Tom Garrity officially started his public relations career in 1994 with the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau; he founded his own firm, The Garrity Group Public Relations, in 1997. Since that time, Garrity has provided issue management, media relations, community relations and crisis counsel to individuals and leaders in a variety of industries. His work has been honored by various national public relations, marketing and advertising associations. Recently, he was awarded the Vista Lifetime Achievement Award by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) New Mexico Chapter.
Garrity’s experience shaping public perception took root during his Emmy Award-winning career in television, working as a news reporter, producer and news director throughout the U.S. Since 1994, he has built his reputation in media relations and crisis communication services in the corporate, tourism, health care and education sectors.
Strategies developed by Garrity have been honored with a PRSA Bronze Anvil, an International Association of Business Communicators Silver Quill, three Cumbre Best of Show awards from the PRSA New Mexico Chapter, Best of the Best/Marketer of the Year award from the New Mexico American Marketing Association as well as top honors from the National School Public Relations Association.
He founded The Garrity Group as a full-service public relations firm with clients in New Mexico and throughout the U.S. As president, Garrity provides strategic counsel, public policy advisement, media relations and crisis communications services to a variety of entities, including leading organizations in telecommunications, tourism, nonprofit and education sectors. In 2011 and 2012, The Garrity Group was named a Top PR Agency by PRWeek.
Throughout Garrity’s career he has followed his personal philosophy to make the complex simple. This philosophy, accompanied with his competitive edge, has built and maintained his reputation as a trusted and reliable public relations professional who generates measureable results. When Garrity is not in the office he is often found hitting the pavement. He is a member of a running group called Oxy “Gen” Morons; since 2010 he has run in one ultra marathon (50K), three marathons, and three half marathons. He is a member of the PRSA Counselors Academy Executive Committee, is an active member with the Albuquerque Economic Forum and serves as a board member with New Mexico First, Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico and New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation.

Garrity received his Bachelor of Arts in radio, television and film from Texas Christian University.
