Learn To Teach

A Counselors Academy Brown Bag Discussion
- Recorded April 14, 2014

Hosted by the Counselors Academy Section.

Penn State public relations professor Marcia DiStaso, Ph.D., and John Paluszek, APR, Fellow PRSA, shared an inside view of PRSA’s Learning to Teach initiative and discussed the need for greater practitioner involvement in public relations education.

A collaborative effort of PRSA’s College of Fellows Educational Initiatives Committee, the Educational Affairs Committee, and the Educators Academy, “Learn to Teach” offers tools and training for senior counselors who seek to share their insight and practical experience by teaching at a college or university. DiStaso and Paluszek also will provide an overview of the PRSA “Learning to Teach” book, which will be released in an updated fourth edition later this year and cover topics such as:

  • Identifying and applying for suitable teaching positions.
  • Honeymoon vs. Reality: The duties and expectations of teaching.
  • Effective course planning.
  • Teaching resources.
  • Measuring student learning.
