April 13, 2010, Chicago
Join PRSA's Public Affairs and Government Section for a full day of learning and networking designed to enhance the skills and insight of public affairs and government communicators at the PRSA 2010 Public Affairs and Government Public Relations Seminar. Choose between two professional development tracks.
Track A: The National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training Session
Most emergencies and events are handled locally, but major incidents may require additional assistance. The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was developed so responders from various jurisdictions can work together in response to natural disasters, emergencies or other large events. This session will be led by instructors Lauri-Ellen Smith, APR, special assistant to the sheriff of Jacksonville, Fla.
Track B: Issue Management and Strategic Planning
The best way to avoid communications crises is to continuously identify, track and manage potential issues. But how do you manage an issue? This two-part workshop gives you all the practical knowledge you’ll need to begin managing issues systematically and expertly. To do so, you’ll need to know the best practice approaches to strategic planning that gets results across organizational campaigns and issues. This session will be led by instructor Stephanie McFarland, APR, director of public relations at the Indiana Department of Revenue.
