PRSA Partner: Johns Hopkins Master of Arts in Communication

The Johns Hopkins Master of Arts in Communication provides a cutting-edge curriculum that integrates digital technology with innovative strategic communication and strong writing skills. The program offers concentrations in public and media relations, political communication, health communication, digital communication, and corporate/non-profit communication.

The MA in Communication helps professionals advance or switch their careers. The majority of our graduates claim that the master’s degree helps with moving into a new position. Our alumni are senior managers in various organizations, such as government agencies, associations, non-profits, and corporations.

Students can earn their MA in Communication onsite — at our conveniently located Washington, DC Center or online. Most onsite classes take place on weekday evenings; a few occur on Saturday mornings. Students have a flexible course schedule and can start and continue their studies during the spring, summer, or fall. They have up to five years to earn their degree; most take about two years.

Our students come from diverse educational backgrounds such as Political Science, Biology, Psychology, and Sociology. The program admits students on a rolling basis. In general, prospective students are encouraged to submit their applications no later than two months before the start of the desired semester. As the exception, international students are encouraged to apply no later than 3 months before the start of the semester.

Students take 10 courses. They follow the strategic planning or research track. Students tailor their coursework to their needs, graduating with a balance of social science and practical skills.

The MA in Communication offers a dynamic learning environment that is conveniently located in the heart of Washington, DC. Just two blocks from the Dupont Circle metro, we are able to facilitate a broad range of academic and professional development events, often in partnership with leading media and public relations organizations.

In a typical academic year, we offer panel events and guest lectures that connect students and build community. Events are frequently streamed online for the convenience of students who attend remotely.
