Twitter drives more referral traffic for key breaking news stories to The Guardian than any other social media platform, said Guardian News & Media CEO Andrew Miller during his speech at the recent #TweetsFromTheTop Twitter event for chief executives.
As AllTwitter.com reports, the biggest breaking news story of 2013 —whistleblower Edward Snowden exposing the NSA surveillance of the public — first appeared on The Guardian’s Twitter account. The story set a one-day traffic record for guardian.co.uk, attracting nearly 7 million unique browsers.
“Twitter is the fastest way to break news now,” Miller said, “[It’s] core to what we do… on a daily basis.”
