Search engine optimization (SEO) has become a critical competency for PR professionals who want to make it easy for individuals to find information about their clients and companies online — especially given that only about 5 percent of searchers ever make it to the second page of their search results.
For any practitioner who wants a better understanding of SEO’s past, present and future, the Sunday Edition radio show on CBC Radio One has produced a new one-hour special, “Engineering Search: The Story of the Algorithm that Changed the World.”
Hosted by Ira Basen, the show features commentary and analysis from several authorities in the field, including Jeff Jarvis, buzzmachine.com blogger and author of the book, "What Would Google Do?"; Clay Shirky, adjunct professor in NYU's graduate Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and a frequent writer on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies; and Rebecca Lieb, author of "The Truth about Search Engine Optimization."
"Engineering Search: The Story of the Algorithm that Changed the World,” was streamed live from the CBC Radio One website yesterday. You may find an archived version of the program here.
