The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes a PRSA member who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of public relations education through college or university teaching.


Judging Criteria:

Teaching: Demonstrate the nominee’s excellence in teaching based on contemporary, research-based knowledge of public relations, outstanding lectures and casework, and the development of teaching aids and methods.

Research: Cite examples of the nominee's research and writing that advances the teaching and practice of public relations.

Involvement with students: Explain how the nominee supported student activities, including counseling, placement assistance and advising groups such as PRSSA.

Involvement in the profession: Demonstrate how the nominee has served the advancement of the profession through involvement in professional organizations or creation of professional development programs.

Judging Procedures:

All entries are reviewed and scored by the Individual Awards subcommittee of PRSA’s Honors & Awards Committee according to the judging criteria. They are then reviewed by the entire Honors & Awards committee which selects the recipients at its summer meeting. recipients will be notified during the week following that meeting.

Nomination Procedures:

  • Any individual member of PRSA may nominate a candidate. Each nomination must include 1) a completed and signed nomination form, which is included with this brochure; and 2) a summary of qualifications, no longer than two typed pages, that addresses the judging criteria.
  • Each nomination must be accompanied by three letters that second the nomination. (Please note: no more than three letters of recommendation will be considered.) The letters need to substantively address the criteria for the award. One of the seconding letters must come from a unit of the Society, either a chapter, district or section, and be signed by the highest ranking officer of the unit.
  • To avoid a conflict of interest, national presidents of PRSA are not eligible to receive an individual award during their terms of office and for two years thereafter. Officers and members of the national PRSA Board of Directors and the national Honors & Awards Committee are not eligible to receive an individual award. Nominations may not be made by units of the Society, such as chapters, or by members of the Honors & Awards Committee.
