2009 Multicultural PR & Marketing Strategies Tour - Coming to a Chapter Near You!

Incorporating multiculturalism and diversity into public relations campaigns is nothing new, but it certainly will be a must for companies and organizations interested in reaching emerging markets. In fact, the latest U.S. Census Bureau projections indicate that minorities — now roughly one-third of the population — are expected to become the majority by 2042, and are projected to be at 54 percent majority in 2050. As the country’s demographics continue to shift, public relations professionals will need to integrate multicultural initiatives into their marketing and communications outreach year-round and alter their general market mindset.

In 2007, PRSA and PR Newswire embarked on an unprecedented nationwide program of professional development seminars promoting multiculturalism. The national tour, which has visited more than 25 cities and PRSA Chapters, consists of presentations or panels educating public relations professionals on diversity. The program, “From Media Relations to Measurement: Maximizing your Multicultural PR Initiatives,” features insights, tactics and tools for execution and measurement of a successful multicultural public relations program, with a concentration on media relations. This free professional development workshop has successfully promoted diversity, attracted new members and raised funds for Chapters.
