OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS TO SERVE ON THE
2007 NATIONAL COMMITTEES AND TASK FORCES
OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS SOCIETY OF AMERICA


PRSA is seeking volunteers wishing to serve on a National Committee, Task Force or other PRSA group. If you wish to serve, look over this list and indicate five areas of interest. We will do our best to identify a leadership opportunity for you.

Accreditation Marketing Committee
The Committee creates and implements plans to increase the awareness, understanding and applications for APR among PRSA members.

Audit Committee
The Committee reviews, monitors and recommends improvements to internal controls and financial reporting processes, and oversees internal and external audit processes. It offers independent advice to management and the National Board on areas relating to PRSA’s accountability and financial responsibility.

Advocacy Advisory Board
This Advisory Board focuses on messages that demonstrate the value of the profession and our role in understanding and managing societal issues. The Board also seeks Advocacy Advisors from Chapters and Sections as well.

Assembly Task Force
The Task Force reviews and makes recommendations for enhancing the PRSA Assembly.

Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS)
The Board carries on the business of upholding PRSA’s Code of Professional Standards. It recommends changes to the Code, Bylaws and administrative procedures. BEPS promotes understanding, discussion and education on standards of ethical behavior and seeks Ethics Officers from Chapters and Sections.

Business School/MBA Program Initiative
This initiative supports and enhances public relations content of MBA curricula. It engages public relations and business professionals and educators to assess public relations coursework in executive education programs and develop recommendations and courses so future leaders can gain a full understanding and appreciation of the role strategic public relations plays in organizational success.

Capital Hill Relationship Initiative
This initiative identifies legislation impacting the profession; creates alliances with DC associations, think tanks and others that can help PRSA communicate our message; develops our relationship with the State Department and government entities, and recruits members from government and key associations.

Chapter/District Council
The Council supports Chapters and Districts in professional development, membership, leadership succession, organizing new Chapters, improving District structure and long-term Chapter and District planning. The Council also develops tools to assist Chapters and Districts to better serve their members locally and regionally.

Crisis/Contingency Plans Ad Hoc Committee
This Committee—composed of members with expertise in emergency environments—supports staff and assesses our contingency plans, ensuring PRSA is prepared to respond to challenging circumstances while continuing our mission and serving members. 

Diversity Advisory Board
In its commitment to the practice of a diverse workforce and a diverse public relations profession, the Board assists PRSA in aggressively implementing an educational outreach program to create professional development and assist the industry and communities we serve in utilizing diversity to gain a competitive edge in today's diverse marketplace.

Education Affairs Committee
The Committee offers guidance in public relations education and creates programs to advance the quality of education. It advances the Certification in Education for Public Relations and reviews PRSSA Chapters. The Committee will also create the framework for residencies for professors and a mentoring program for those interested in teaching.

Global Initiatives Advisory Board
Members work with the Global Alliance to facilitate unification of our profession through dialogue, ethical issues and professional development and also helps develop PRSA’s own global initiatives.

Governance Committee
This Committee seeks to optimize the governance of PRSA, ensuring our structure, policies, procedures and practices are effective in helping PRSA achieve its mission.

Historical Archive Project Committee
This Committee is responsible for identifying historical information; developing and implementing a communications plan for the historical archives. The focus in 2007 will be to work with the 60th Anniversary Committee for usage during the anniversary.

Honors & Awards Committee
The Committee inspires achievement by promoting excellence through national awards programs. The Silver Anvil Awards recognize organizations for best public relations practices and Bronze Anvils recognize the best in public relations tactics. Individual awards honor those who’ve made outstanding contributions to the profession.

International Conference Committee
This Committee develops and promotes the International Conference in Philadelphia set for October 20-23, 2007. Committee members help develop the Conference theme; secure national and international speakers, sponsors and exhibitors; and promote the Conference in the U.S. and abroad.

Innovations Team
The committee serves as an independent source of advice and counsel to PRSA and its Board, helping identify strategies to increase revenues while enhancing member value.

Investment Advisory Committee
Committee members with a background and understanding of finance help review and audit investment strategies of PRSA in consultation with the PRSA Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, Finance Committee and Investment Advisors.

Marketing and Branding Committee
The Committee helps develop marketing plans based on the PRSA Strategic Plan, and organizational needs and aspirations. The goal is to increase the visibility, awareness and understanding of PRSA, the profession and the professional through an overall strategic marketing plan for PRSA as well as plans for individual products and services.

Membership Committee
Members work with staff and Chapters, Districts and Sections to create and implement plans to aggressively recruit and retain PRSA members.

Member Communications and Publications Audit Task Force
The Task Force works to optimize PRSA communications with our members, provide recommendations for communications improvement and develop measurable tools for continued evaluation

National Partnership Task Force
This task force works with PRSA staff to help identify sponsors and partners for PRSA.

Professional Development Committee
The Committee helps determine the industry’s professional development needs so that staff can best develop products and a delivery system to meet and exceed those needs with the goal of PRSA being the preeminent resource for public relations programming.

PRSA Cares Committee
The Committee will work with Chapters, Districts and Sections to identify opportunities for PRSA to assist charitable organizations through sharing our expertise in public relations and communications to advance and support the communities we serve.

PRSA Foundation Board
The Foundation Board focuses its efforts on continuing to develop a strong PRSA Foundation and to greatly enlarge the donor base of individuals, corporations and other organizations with a mission to improve public relations education and research.

PRSA Foundation Advisory Board
The Advisory Board’s fund-raising activities support the PRSA Foundation’s mission of research and education. It offers guidance to PRSA and the Foundation on philanthropic opportunities; assesses Foundation initiatives; recommends future directions; and develops and maintains scholarships, planned giving and research programs.

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
Our nearly 300 PRSSA Chapters representing more than 9,000 students are continually seeking professional and faculty advisors as well as mentors and those wishing to offer supervised internship opportunities. To participate, contact your local college of university with a PRSSA Chapter, visit www.prssa.com or contact PRSSA staff at our national headquarters.

Research Committee
The Committee evaluates research proposals, helps determine topics for future research and develops an action plan to increase research among educators, students and professionals. In 2007, the Committee is also charged with studying the feasibility of a new research journal for the public relations profession.

60th Anniversary Committee
The Committee will help plan and implement activities for PRSA’s 60th anniversary which will be commemorated in both 2007 and 2008.

Strategic Planning Committee
The Committee leads in the development of the 2008-2010 PRSA Strategic Plan and guides the growth of the Society as PRSA works to strategically advance the profession and the professional.

Student Internship Task Force
The Task Force will create a national standardized student internship guide that meets the needs of academic institutions, students and those organizations offering internships.

Technology Task Force
The Task Force works with staff and members with expertise in new technologies to help craft technological innovations that meet the current and future needs of PRSA, the profession and our PRSA members.

Universal Accreditation Board (UAB)
The UAB serves members of PRSA and eight other organizations by providing a means of quantifying the knowledge, skills and abilities of public relations professionals and encouraging professional development. UAB focuses on continuous improvement and the highest certification standard possible.

Work, Life, Gender Committee
The Committee advances understanding of the issues of work, life and gender in public relations.
