Newly Featured resource (video): Most emergencies and events are handled locally, but major incidents may require additional assistance. The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was developed so responders from various jurisdictions can work together in response to natural disasters, emergencies or large events. Stephanie McFarland, APR, now talks with Lauri-Ellen Smith, APR, special assistant to the sheriff of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joseph V. Trahan, III, Ph.D., APR, Fellow PRSA, president and CEO, Trahan & Associates, about the benefits of this training program. The three will also be presenting at our upcoming full-day conference. Featured resource (video): Stephanie McFarland, APR, now talks with Bob Dittmer, APR, on strategic public relations planning. During his 30 years in public relations, Dittmer has worked as a military public affairs leader, private-agency owner and an academic leader. Through his work, he has strived to bring value and strong ethical practice to the public relations field. His efforts and accomplishments have been recognized by the U.S. Army, NATO, PRSA and the Defense Information School. Dittmer currently is director of public relations graduate studies and sequence coordinator of the public relations undergraduate sequence at Indiana University. He is also academic advisor to the university’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter and Jaguar Communications, the Chapter’s student-operated public relations agency.

About the Public Affairs and Government Section

The Public Affairs and Government  Section strives to enhance the overall knowledge and skills of public affairs and communications professionals in all levels of government and branches of the military, as well as those from counseling firms, corporations and associations who are responsible for communicating with various audiences on public policy or public safety issues. The Section provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and approaches used to successfully participate in the public affairs, government and military arenas.
