2012 Silver Anvil Award of Excellence Winner — Crisis Communications — Business
On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti, killing 230,000+, displacing more than 1.2 million, and leaving thousands of Haitians without limbs. As the leading provider of orthotic and prosthetic services in the neighboring United States, all eyes were on Hanger Orthopedic Group. By utilizing a variety of tactics, Hanger’s two-person Public Relations Department was able to secure media coverage of the company’s initiatives associated with the crisis response, raise awareness of the company’s non-profit foundation who lead the way with the recovery efforts, streamline internal communication, and effectively and efficiently manage the messages communicated.
Crisis Communications campaigns include programs undertaken to deal with an unplanned event that required an immediate response. "Business" includes all profit-making entities.
