2009 Silver Anvil Award Winner – Public Affairs – Associations / Nonprofit Organizations
In June 2008, as oil prices hit record highs, the Air Transport Association (ATA) enlisted Xenophon Strategies and 720 Strategies to help develop and implement an aggressive public affairs campaign to lower fuel prices by exposing rampant, unregulated speculation in the oil markets. The coalition used media relations, grassroots advocacy, digital engagement, coalition building, and Congressional outreach to influence target audiences. The campaign generated Congressional action and widespread public outrage towards oil speculation. Partly as a result, the price of oil dropped 35 percent in the first seven weeks of the campaign as speculators fled the oil markets.
