T. Garland Stansell, APR, Immediate Past Chair
T. Garland Stansell, APR, has more than 35 years’ experience in strategic public relations, marketing, health promotion, advocacy and fundraising. At Children’s of Alabama, he is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic public relations and communication programs and initiatives in support of the pediatric medical center's sub-specialty divisions, business units, fundraising, advocacy and health promotion/education activities.
Prior to joining Children’s of Alabama, Stansell served as Vice President of Public Relations and Development for Alabama Goodwill Industries and as Assistant Director of Corporate Communications for BankBoston Mortgage Corporation, Alabama Office.
Stansell has a long tenure of leadership within PRSA, serving on the Board of Directors as Chair in 2020, Chair-elect in 2019, Treasurer in 2018, Secretary in 2017 and an at-large member from 2015-2016. He also served as an Assembly Delegate (Alabama Chapter and Health Academy section); Past President and Board Member, PRSA Alabama Chapter; Past PRSA Sections Council Co-Chair and Past National Chair and Executive Committee Member, PRSA Health Academy.
A Birmingham, Alabama native, Stansell received his bachelor’s degree in mass communications, public relations and business from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and a master’s degree in public and private management (MPPM) from Birmingham Southern College. He is active in a number of community and civic organizations including the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama, Shelby County Arts Council, Leadership Shelby County, and South Highland Presbyterian Church.
