Diverse Dialogues: Juneteenth: An Everyday Call to Action

July 14, 2026 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time)

Juneteenth has evolved over time from a regional Texas commemoration to a critical national flashpoint. It represents not only a celebration of Black resilience but a stark reminder of the fight for racial equity, voting rights, and accurate historical education.

As communications professionals, we see Juneteenth as a reminder of our responsibility to elevate truth, amplify historically excluded voices and help shape a more inclusive narrative for the future. It invites us to honor the past, celebrate the present, and take meaningful action in our work and communities.

Everyone is invited to join us on July 14 for this special program hosted by our PRSA Black Voices Affinity Group as we celebrate Juneteenth. The panel speakers are:

  • Daphne Thomas, communications director, Committee to Elect Justin J. Pearson, District 86 State Representative
  • Troi Barnes, director of media relations, NAACP Legal Defense Fund
  • Renee Malone, APR, president and CEO, KQ Communications

Renee Malone, APR, a member of the PRSA Memphis Chapter, will moderate the panel session.

During the panel session you’ll learn:

  • How Juneteenth, a reminder of delayed freedom, serves as a powerful metaphor for marginalized communities.
  • How Juneteenth preserves and sharing an unfiltered American history.
  • How to leverage Juneteenth as a call to civic action everyday.
  • How to use Juneteenth as a beacon of self-determination among political fatigue and civil rights challenges.
