PRSA's D&I Committee Announces Name Change

Nov. 21, 2022

PRSA has announced it is changing the name of its Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Committee.

Best practice across industries acknowledges that equity, which refers to fair treatment in access, opportunity and advancement for all individuals, is complementary to diversity, which values differences of all, and inclusion, which calls for full participation of all. The three pillars of diversity, equity, and inclusion mirror the goals/mission of public relations practitioners, defined as the primary audience, in PRSA’s Strategic Plan.

The DE&I Committee is comprised of volunteer members from a cross section of PRSA Chapters, Districts and Professional Interest Sections. Their work will be as robust as it has always been, but will more intentionally focus on defining equity and bringing light to those systems that serve as barriers in the communications profession. The Committee curates and shares resources with all members, particularly those from underrepresented groups, helping to position PRSA as a model for the communications profession and reflecting exemplary leadership in diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Committee’s recent achievements include launching the Diverse Dialogues webinar series, adopting a unified statement on D&I, presenting unconscious bias education, and creating Affinity Groups for Black and Hispanic-Latino voices.
