Leonard S. Greenberger, APR, is vice president at AKCG – Public Relations Counselors where he leads the firm’s Washington, D.C.-area office and manages a national portfolio of clients in AKCG’s crisis and proactive communications practices. He provides strategic planning, issues and crisis counsel, branding and marketing communications, and spokesperson training, with a particular focus on serving associations and nonprofit organizations.
Greenberger has spent more than three decades working closely with mission-driven organizations across the construction, energy, science and technology, and education sectors. He has led messaging, branding and repositioning campaigns; supported reputation recovery efforts; and guided nonprofit leaders through high-stakes communications challenges.
An active member of the public relations community, Greenberger is immediate past chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Association/Nonprofit Section Executive Committee and serves as co-chair of the PRSA National Capital Chapter’s APR Committee. He is also the author of What to Say When Things Get Tough: Business Communication Strategies for Winning People Over When They’re Angry, Worried, and Suspicious of Everything You Say (McGraw-Hill, 2013).
He holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and dual bachelor’s degrees in political science and communications from the University of Michigan. He lives in suburban Maryland and enjoys reading, running and relaxing — occasionally all at once.
