Ellyn Pollack

As a program analyst for the 2020 Census Integrated Communication (ICC) Campaign, Ellyn Pollack, M.A., APR, Fellow PRSA, manages the multi-million-dollar U.S. Census Bureau ICC contract for the national, regional, and local partnership programs. As Chief of the Communications Directorate Promotions Branch, she led planning for social media strategy and collaboration with various communication divisions to ensure integration across the 2020 Census campaign.   

Prior to joining the Census Bureau, Ellyn worked at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission directing a national campaign on drowning prevention. This featured extensive collaboration with more than 1,000 partners to increase awareness of child drownings and drain entrapment in pools and spas. CPSC data showed an 11 percent decrease in child drownings. 

Ellyn began her government career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she developed and implemented national multi-faceted communications plans to reach people of diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. As the first Communications Director for the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health, Ellyn was instrumental in developing a scientific blueprint for women’s health research, and was at the forefront when Congress mandated that women and minorities be included in NIH-sponsored clinical studies.   

An active member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), she served as Chair of the PRSA Health Academy, as Co-Chair of the Sections Council, as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Capital Chapter, and as a Silver Anvil Award Judge.

She received numerous national and international awards for her education campaigns. In 2011, she was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows.   

Ellyn earned her master's degree in public relations from the University of Maryland-College Park, and her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Originally from Chicago, she graduated from the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
