April Slayton is the Director of Communications for the Library of Congress, where she serves as the primary spokesperson for the Library of Congress and leads the staff that creates engaging public content, sharing the Library’s vast collections and resources with the public. April previously served as the assistant director for communications at the National Park Service, chief of staff to the United States Ambassador to Australia, communications director at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, and public affairs specialist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. 

April holds a master’s degree in Media and Public Affairs from the George Washington University and an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2017, PR Week named April one of its “40 Under 40” top communications professionals nationwide.

April lives on Capitol Hill with her husband and daughter. Outside of work, April leads a Girl Scout troop on Capitol Hill and enjoys hiking, cooking and family adventures. A Tar Heel born and a Tar Heel bred, April’s happy place will always be in Chapel Hill, NC.
