As PR professionals, we are often guilty of opting to remain comfortable at an organization far past our ability to effectively counsel or influence the communications strategies and outcomes.

Fearing the jump from the proverbial frying pan into the fire, we forgo greater career opportunities and become complacent in our current positions. But in our field, high risk equals high reward. Crisis situations, in particular, often present a unique opportunity to perform on a high wire without a safety net.

With the increasing expectations for the communications department to successfully position the organization, build and defend its reputation, and engage its audiences, it is imperative that professionals take stock of their talents, career options and future opportunities as they navigate the competitive landscape.
