Joseph Abreu, APR, is an award-winning public relations professional who currently serves as the Communications & Emergency Management Director for the Clerk of the Circuit Court of St. Lucie County. In his role, he is responsible for strategic and crisis communications, as well as media relations, emergency management, and reputation/brand management.

 

Abreu previously managed communications campaigns and strategies for the Clerk & Comptroller of Palm Beach County and managed public affairs for the Tax Collector of Palm Beach County. He is accredited in public relations and is a FEMA certified Advanced Public Information Officer.

 

Abreu has been member of the Public Relations Society of America since 2003 and will serve as the 2021 secretary. He is a recipient of PRSA Sunshine District’s Trailblazer Award and the PRSA Palm Beach Chapter’s Hall of Fame Award. His PR campaigns and tactics have earned more than 40 national, state and local awards. Abreu has also earned a certificate in PRSA’s crisis communications program.

 

Prior to joining the public sector, Abreu worked in the non-profit and corporate sectors, including Edelman Public Relations Worldwide in Miami. In addition to his fulltime job, he is also an independent practitioner who consults for government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations.

 

Abreu has a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Florida. He is a Florida native and now lives with his husband in Port St. Lucie.
