PRSA’s 2019 Leadership Recruitment Process Opens

The Public Relations Society of America Seeks Candidates to Fill Three Annually Available Executive Committee Positions and Six Director Positions; One At-Large Seat is Available to both APR and Non-APR Members

NEW YORK – The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is seeking eligible members to lead the society in 2019 The annual PRSA Board of Directors leadership recruitment process is now open and all qualified individuals are encouraged to apply (view qualifications here). Members of the PRSA Board of Directors serve as the public face and voice of the organization, act on behalf of the entire public relations profession, assist with committees and provide strategic guidance and valuable insight into industry trends.

“For more than 70 years, PRSA has set the standard for excellence in the profession,” said Mark McClennan, APR, 2018 PRSA National Nominating Committee Chair. “We need the best and brightest of our profession to stand up and give back to the Society and to current and future public relations and communications professionals. We need your insight and leadership to help us chart a course to the future and meet the diverse needs of our members. I encourage all qualified PRSA members to step up as a candidate for national board service and to explore the opportunity. You will not regret it.”

PRSA is seeking candidates to fill the three annually available Executive Committee positions as well as Director positions for five Districts and one At-Large position. The open positions are as follows:

  • Chair-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Director, East Central District (two-year term)
  • Director, Mid-Atlantic District (two-year term)
  • Director, Northeast District (two-year term)
  • Director, Tri-State District (two-year term)
  • Director, Western District (two-year term)
  • Director At-Large* (two-year term)

* In 2019, there is one open director at-large position, and both APRs and non-APRs can apply.

Teleconferences hosted by members of the PRSA Executive Committee and PRSA’s chief executive officer, Joseph Truncale, will be conducted to discuss the requirements for serving on the PRSA Board of Directors and to answer candidates’ questions.

Deadlines for Board Candidates

The final submission deadline for officer and director applications is Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a District Director position, the applicant must be Accredited in Public Relations (APR), be a member of the society in good standing and have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Experience in a leadership role within the Society including but not limited to service as a member of a Chapter, District or Section board of directors, chair of a national or local committee or task force, or service as an Assembly delegate; or
  • Experience as a public relations or communication professional for 20 or more years, with increasing levels of responsibility.

To be eligible for a director at-large position, the applicant must be a member of the society in good standing and have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Experience in a leadership role within the Society including but not limited to service as a member of a Chapter, District or Section board of directors, chair of a national or local committee or task force, or service as an Assembly delegate; or
  • Experience as a public relations or communication professional for 20 or more years, with increasing levels of responsibility.

To be eligible for an officer position, the candidate must meet the eligibility criteria required of a District Director and must have served on the PRSA National board. A person currently serving as a director may seek to be elected for an officer position.
