The AI Tools for the Modern Communicator: Technology, Ethics and Future Trends video series is designed to provide an update to the original series and equip professionals with the latest developments in the fast-evolving AI landscape.

The three newly added videos focus on:

  • How artificial intelligence is reshaping communications today and, in the years, ahead.
  • Ethical challenges and potential solutions through the lens of the PRSA Code of Ethics.
  • Effective prompt writing and prompt refining to improve AI-generated content.
  • Future implications of AI for the communications profession.

After viewing all three modules, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion. Participants with the APR credential earn a total of 1.5 CEUs for the entire course, which includes .5 CEUs in Ethics.

Speaker Bio

headshot of Cayce MyersCayce Myers is a professor of public relations and director of graduate studies at the School of Communication at Virginia Tech. His work focuses on media history, political communication, and laws that affect public relations practice. He is the author of Public Relations History: Theory Practice and Profession and Money in Politics: Campaign Fundraising in the 2020 Presidential Election. Dr. Myers is also the coauthor of the 4th and 5th editions of Mass Communication Law in Virginia.

He has published over sixty peer reviewed articles, book chapters, law review articles, and trade press articles about public relations history, public relations strategy, political campaigns, and laws and policies that affect public relations practice.

In addition to his public relations scholarship, Dr. Myers is accredited in public relations, and in addition to his PRSA membership, he is a member of several public relations organizations including the Arthur W. Page Society, the Universal Accreditation Board, Legal Research Editor for the Institute for Public Relations, and the Commission on Public Relations Education.

Dr. Myers is also a frequent commentator about public relations, political campaigns, and legal issues, having been quoted in several media outlets including Time, Bloomberg, Fox News, the Los Angeles Times, the Hill, and the Associated Press.

This module explores ethical issues communicators face as they navigate the use of artificial intelligence, along with potential solutions.  Particular attention is given to ethical gray areas and the application of the PRSA Code of Ethics.  The module also examines the technological systems that produce AI, and how ethical dilemmas can materialize from technological factors within AI systems.

Module 2: Prompt Writing

This module focuses on prompt writing for AI systems.  Learn how data and algorithms produce content and how to leverage good prompt writing to maximize AI output quality.  The module also discusses echo chambers, hallucinations, user experience, and prompt refinement.

Module 3: Future of AI

More Info

This module examines harmonizing AI regulations, mis and disinformation, content ownership, AI literacy, AI decision making, and other critical issues communicators will face in the next 5-10 years.  The module underscores the importance of human accountability in the responsible use of artificial intelligence and shows how communicators can work with stakeholders to create AI norms of practice for their organizations.

Accreditation
