Scott Trotter, APR

Scott Trotter is the senior director of communications at Utah Valley University, the state’s largest university with more than 41,000 students. At UVU, he is responsible for the school’s external and internal communications.

Prior to UVU, Trotter directed the Utah Community and Interfaith Relations Division in the Public Affairs Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Trotter was hired by the Church in 1999 to direct its media, community and interfaith relations in New York City. While there, he interfaced with national and international journalists, United Nations ambassadors and local and state leaders.

From 2005-2013, he served as a media spokesman at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City during a time of intense media scrutiny that included the Mitt Romney 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. He has conducted numerous press conferences and media tours in New York City and Salt Lake City, and is well-known for his media training workshops.

He received his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential in 2008, after which he served as the PRSA Greater Salt Lake Chapter APR Chair for six years. He has served in various PRSA leadership positions, including the North Pacific District Chair and District Council Chair.

Trotter earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Brigham Young University.
